According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s national capital, Delhi, tops the charts with 4,882 registered drones. Close behind are Tamil Nadu (4,588) and Maharashtra (4,132), reflecting a significant adoption of drones across these states.

Simplified Drone Registration: A Step Towards Growth
To encourage more people and businesses to use drones, the government has simplified the registration process. Previously, a passport was mandatory for drone registration, but in August 2023, the rules changed.
Now, a Voter ID, Ration Card, or Driving License can be used for registration, de-registration, or transfer of drones.
Every registered drone in India gets a Unique Identification Number (UIN) from the Digital Sky Platform, operated by the DGCA. Additionally, Remote Pilot Training Organisations (RPTOs) have issued 22,466 Remote Pilot Certificates (RPCs), ensuring trained professionals operate drones safely and efficiently.

To regulate drone operations, India’s airspace is divided into three zones:
