The Regional Science Centre (RSC) in Tirupati recently hosted an inspiring hands-on initiative titled ‘Junior Drone Master: Learn…Explore…Fly’. Conducted during the Sankranti holidays from January 10 to 14, this program was a unique opportunity for young minds to dive into the fascinating realm of drone technology.
Aimed at students in grades 7 to 10, the program saw enthusiastic participation, drawing nearly 25 students from Tirupati, Sullurpeta, and Chittoor.
Junior Drone Master: A Perfect Blend of Learning and Fun
Combining hands-on activities with principles from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), the five-day course was notable for its practical approach to education. K Srinivasa Nehru, the project director for RSC, highlighted the program's emphasis on awakening young learners' interest and encouraging their creative minds. The carefully curated activities introduced participants to the fundamentals of drones, ensuring a balance between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
Students studied the fundamental ideas in mathematics and physics that drive drone technology. They explored key topics such as aerodynamics, thrust, and stability, gaining insights into how these concepts come together to make drones fly. Beyond the basics, the participants ventured into electronics, learning about components such as motors, batteries, sensors, and microcontrollers that bring drones to life.

The program's emphasis on experiential learning was one of its distinguishing characteristics. Every participant has the chance to build their own drone from the ground up.
