Weighing around 120 kilograms and spanning 3.5 meters in wingspan, this drone is powered by a 30-horsepower Wankel engine, allowing it to cover an impressive 1,000 kilometers at speeds reaching 180 kilometers per hour.

What makes Nagastra-1 particularly remarkable is its indigenous composition—over 75% of its components are manufactured in India. 

This aligns with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers for critical military technology.

Nagastra-1 is significantly smaller than NAL’s kamikaze drone, weighing around 30 kilograms. But don’t let its size fool you—this drone is equipped with a highly accurate GPS-guided system, capable of striking within two meters of a target. 

It also carries a high-explosive fragmenting warhead, making it effective against lightly armored vehicles and enemy bunkers. Unlike many loitering munitions used globally, Nagastra-1 features a parachute recovery system, meaning it can be retrieved and reused if a mission is aborted—a crucial advantage that increases cost-effectiveness and operational flexibility.

Precision, Patience, and Power

The effectiveness of these drones lies in their ability to hover over enemy territory for extended periods, gathering intelligence before striking at the most opportune moment. Traditional missiles, once launched, cannot be recalled.

A key feature of India’s kamikaze drones is their capability to operate in GPS-denied environments. Traditional drones often rely on satellite navigation, but in war zones, GPS signals can be jammed by enemy forces. 

India’s drones, however, are integrated with the indigenous NAViC system, ensuring they can function independently even in electronic warfare scenarios. This resilience makes them a powerful asset in modern combat.
