India's Drone Revolution: 6 Years of Progress

In the past six years, India has achieved remarkable advancements in drone technology, setting the stage for a transformative future. Spearheading this change is the government’s focused approach to developing a robust ecosystem for drone operations. A Policy-Driven Approach to Drone Development

The foundation of this advancement is a carefully considered drone policy designed to promote the broad adoption of this adaptable technology. The Surveyor General of India, Hitesh Kumar Makwana, highlighted these efforts during a recent workshop in Bhopal.

The policy has a well-defined structure that includes guidelines, licensing requirements, and specified drone operating hours. These steps are intended to guarantee the safe and efficient incorporation of drones into a range of sectors and services.

“Drones are no longer just flying cameras. They represent a game-changing technology capable of delivering services across multiple sectors,” Makwana emphasized. Strengthening India’s Self-Reliance

The government's dedication to drones is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) visions. In addition to developing local skills, India is lessening its need for imported technologies by encouraging domestic drone manufacturing and innovation.

Makwana expressed optimism about the ecosystem being built, stating that the initiative will open doors to vast opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and technological leadership.

Madhya Pradesh: A Trailblazer in Drone Technology

As a leader in drone use, Madhya Pradesh is establishing standards that other states can follow. Makwana claims that the state has previously shown its ability by using drones in the Swamitva Yojana, a hallmark program that maps rural holdings and grants individuals the right to own land.

The state’s proactive approach includes plans to establish manufacturing units to boost the production and availability of drones. Sanjay Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary of Science and Technology, explained that the state is working to create a sustainable ecosystem for drones.

Drones are becoming vital instruments in a variety of fields.
